Time Freedom

Just a few years ago, the economic recession was poised to destroy Brooke and Jason’s finances and their hope for the future. But thanks to this home business, they enjoy greater financial freedom today than they ever have before.
The Big Announcement
In 2009, Brooke made an exciting announcement to her husband: she was pregnant with their second child. After the initial celebration died down, Jason’s mind began swirling with questions and doubts.
“It was exciting, but it was also scary,” Jason remembers. “I wasn’t sure we could afford all of the expenses that come with having a baby.”
At the time, their personal training studio was hurting in a sagging economy, they had more than $70,000 in debt and Jason was working 16-hour days to make up their economic shortfall.
Description: Screen shot 2012 08 31 at 11.11.08 AM 150x150 Real Time Freedom“I have friends who have lots of money but no time, and friends who have lots of time but no money,” Jason says. “I guess you could say we didn’t have either one.”
But their worries were offset by one ray of hope: their growing home business. That spring, in 2010, they hey earned a hope-inspiring check for $6,761, and then eclipsed it with a monthly check for  $21,662 before the end of the year.
Real Time Freedom
“This has given us an extraordinary sense of freedom, so we’re just trying to help others have that experience as well,” says Jason, whose total income (so far) of $642,417 has all but obliterated his financial worries. “I used to wake up to an alarm at 4 a.m., but now my two boys are my alarm clock.”

Building the Future, A Story of Hope

The year was 2003, and Brandon McClendon was a self-described “rebellious” 14-year-old. “There were no positive male influences in my life,” he remembers. “I was behind in school and on the verge of dropping out.”
BUT THAT YEAR, Brandon’s mother encouraged him to become involved in a mentoring group led by [Melaleuca] Executive Director V Kevin Smith.
The premise of the group was simple: give young men a taste of entrepreneurship and business by providing access to community leaders. At first, Brandon was a little resistant. But in time, he came to realize he’d been gifted a tremendous opportunity to better his life.
“The summer before 12th grade, I realized I wanted to change a lot of the things I was doing,” Brandon says. “My GPA was 2.2—just horrible—but I worked really hard that year and earned a 4.0 for the fall and spring semesters.”
Scholarship offers soon arrived in the mail from Emory University and Morehouse College. Brandon ultimately went to Georgia Perimeter College and then transferred to Georgia State University, where he graduated with honors in accounting. He recently completed a master’s program and is now seeking to become a certified public accountant.
“I blossomed from a teenager going down the wrong path,” he says, “to a determined college student.”

A Stepping Stone

After running his own executive recruiting firm and establishing a nonprofit organization that helped former inmates transition back into society, Kevin wanted to focus on his true passion: helping young people get their footing in life. And when a handful of parents approached him concerned about the direction their sons were headed, Kevin saw an opportunity.
“When I would talk with their sons, I could see they had good insights in business,” Kevin says. “We wanted to have a program designed to help these young men pursue entrepreneurial endeavors, go to college or pursue whichever path of life they chose.”
The group started out small, and the participants weren’t always willing, but the mentors could see promise in all of them and took an optimistic approach.
“I think everyone there was just like me; we didn’t want to be there, but we just kept coming,” Brandon remembers. “It became a stepping stone for a lot of us, and it challenged us to use our brains in a positive way.”
Over time, the projects evolved with the direction of the participants. They wrote business plans, grouped off into smaller “companies” and even did the occasional outing to a sports event or activity. At one point, Kevin even invented a simple tie protector to demonstrate the process of patenting an invention to the participants.
With their mentors, they discussed business models and strategic planning—“things that kids our age weren’t even thinking about,” Brandon says. They forged bonds and gleaned a better understanding of the world around them.
“We’ve done a lot of fun things together,” Kevin says. “And one of the things that makes this program unique is that we involve the whole family. Many of the boys’ parents are mentors, and many of those parents stay on as mentors after their young men graduate from the program.”
In 2010, the participants, most of whom are between 10 and 13 years old, founded their own corporation—a real corporation—called Men of Valor Enterprise. With a group of young men at the helm, they now plan to launch their own product line and hope to turn a profit.
“There are some real success stories,” says Executive Director II Rick Hayes, whose Melaleuca business helps fund the charitable organization. “Some boys have gone from video games to employment and to making a difference for others.”

Melaleuca and charity foundationsMaking It All Happen

It’s one thing to envision a program like the Smiths’ mentoring program, but it’s something else to fund it. Over the years, the organization has granted 17 scholarships to participants who’ve gone on to attend college. They’ve provided time, support and resources to dozens of young people who’ve discovered a more firm direction through the organization (now called Restoration Community Resource). And, Kevin Smith says, the charitable organization’s main source of funding has been Melaleuca.
“Myrtice enrolled with Melaleuca in December of 2003, and we started the mentoring group that year,” Kevin says. “When we found out about the Charitable Organization program, we enrolled our nonprofit. And from 2004 until now, it has earned $271,449.”
The Smiths’ charitable organization has, in fact, become a model for charitable organizations throughout Melaleuca. “It shows other charitable organizations that Melaleuca is a viable option for funding,” Kevin says. “This wouldn’t have been possible without the Charitable Organization Program. That program impacts hundreds of lives and allows Marketing Executives to make a real difference for others.”
This past summer, Kevin and Myrtice cheered as seven more young men graduated from the program. The guest speaker at the graduation ceremony was none other than Melaleuca Vice President of Sales Johnny Morgison. Many of the boys will continue on to college (one of them even won the prestigious Gates Millennium scholarship, granting him a full ride to the colleges of his choice for 10 years), and some will go straight into the workforce or even start their own businesses. Regardless, all will leave the program with a greater understanding of how to succeed at work and at home.
“We look at it as leaving a legacy for the next generation,” Kevin says. “The youth of today are our future, and we think it’s imperative for programs such as this to positively affect young men.

“Our motto is, ‘Just because it hasn’t been done before doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t do it.’ We make sure they know that there’s no limit on what they can become or what they can do.”

From Frenzy To Peace Of Mind With Melaleuca

From Frenzy To Peace Of Mind With Melaleuca

Melaleuca's Brown familyJUST A FEW years ago, Stacy Brown was a successful executive in corporate America. Though she enjoyed a substantial income, she wanted more freedom to fulfill her role as a mother. Now, thanks to Melaleuca, Stacy can both be a mom and pursue her ambitions

Life in the corporate world

While working in corporate America, Stacy Brown discovered that the more successful she became, the more responsibilities she was assigned. Finding the new responsibilities hard to turn down, Stacy watched her workday hours expand.
“When I was working in corporate America for the first three years of my daughter’s life, I was lucky to have an hour with her each day,” Stacy says. “That one hour was usually frenzied as I tried to feed her, prepare her lunch for the next day, and do all the other things around the house that needed to be done before we got up to do it all over again.”

Time for being Mom

Today, Stacy devotes a similar effort to Melaleuca, but she now knows she can schedule her work around her 4-year-old daughter, Dyllan.
“Since I walked away from my corporate career to build a Melaleuca business, I have made it a priority to schedule my work around the hours I want to spend with my daughter,” Stacy says. “I always make sure we have plenty of time to play, go to the park and read together each night before bed.”
The freedom to spend more time with Dyllan is what first prompted Stacy to build a business, but she has found many other benefits too.
“Now, I know that I’m providing a healthier home to raise my daughter in,” she says. “The more I learn about household toxins, the more grateful I am to have found products that allow us to have the best possible health.”

A business that touches lives

With the time freedom she has always wanted, Stacy has reevaluated her business goals. After Convention last year, she wrote down five goals for the future of her Melaleuca business
  1. Win President’s Club
  2. Win Marketing Executive of the Year
  3. Achieve Corporate Director
  4. Earn $1 million in a 12-month period
  5. Achieve total financial freedom
“I love being part of a team that changes so many lives,” Stacy says. “We’ve touched so many people and helped them discover what financial security feels like, and it’s been amazing to be a part of it.”
With that financial security, Stacy says she’s enjoying a peace of mind she could never find in her corporate career.

“I’m now on my way to living out dreams I never expected would become realities,” Stacy says. “And it’s all thanks to Melaleuca.”

We've all used bleach to clean our home or whiten our laundry

We've all used bleach to clean our home or whiten our laundry. We figure, it must be safe, right? The answer will surprise you. Read the interview below for more information.  And, of course...Melaleuca has a safer, better alternative.

Thank you for being a loyal Melaleuca customer.

Naturally Speaking
The Dangers of Chlorine Bleach

Most of us have grown up with the idea that whiter whites (and brighter colors) mean bleachcleaner clothes. We continue to use chlorine products with abandon to whiten and to disinfect. We write on white paper and bathe in and drink chlorinated water. After all, who wants bacteria- infested water? In our society, chlorine is ubiquitous-and so are its side effects. In fact, the long-term residual effects from chlorine are becom- . ing such a health hazard that the American Public Health Association is urging the American paper industry to stop using chlorine. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has found dioxin (a toxic byproduct of chlorine) to be 300,000 times more potent as a carcinogen than DDT.

Healthy & Natural speaks with Stephen Ashkin, director of product development and environmental affairs at Seventh Generation, a manufacturer of green, non-toxic cleaning products. Although he has a degree in chemistry, Ashkin gained most of his practical knowledge and experience through direct contact in the chemical industry. He literally grew up in the laboratory of his parent's cleaning products manufacturing company. Ashkin chaired the American Society for Testing and Materials' task force that wrote the national cleaning standard for commercial and institutional buildings. He has also chaired President Clinton's Green Chemistry Challenge Task Force. Ashkin is acting advisor for a number of EPA programs including the Indoor Environment Division. He has published numerous articles on environmentally preferable products and is a very popular conference speaker.

Q: Does chlorine occur naturally?
Typically chlorine does not normally occur in the environment except as a yellow gas on rare occasions. It's a manufactured substance produced through an industrial process. An electrical current is passed through salt water producing chlorine and caustic soda.

Q: Is chlorine very toxic?
This is where this topic gets very interesting. Many people argue that chlorine is basically safe-that it breaks down into harmless salt and water. Well, that's true-in a laboratory test tube under very controlled conditions. The real issue is not just how toxic chlorine itself is but how the unintended byproducts of chlorine (organochlorines and dioxins) remain in the environment. They are persistent in the environment; they do not break down readily and therefore bio-accumulate.

Q: Is there a chlorine pollution problem?
One of the largest uses of chlorine is in the paper industry. Chlorine is first used to break down the lignan that holds the wood fibers together. Then chlorine is used to bleach the paper to make it white. The effluent or wastewater containing dioxins and other organochlorines are then dumped into streams and waterways. These ingredients are highly toxic and carcinogenic. Once in the waste stream, they come into contact with other organic materials and surfactants and combine to form a host of extremely toxic organic chemicals. A chain of events occurs: The water becomes polluted; the fish become contaminated; animals eat the fish and people eat the contaminated animals and fish. This can create a very serious health problem; the dioxins and other toxic chemicals, when consumed, accumulate in the fatty tissues. These contaminants are also hormone disrupters because they mimic estrogen. The EPA has observed and documented hormonal imbalance, suppressed immune systems, reproductive infertility and alterations in fetal development of animals. In viewing the big picture, these factors are perhaps the most frightening results from the widespread use of chlorine.

Q: How widespread is chlorine contamination?
It is so widespread that it would be difficult to find any human being who does not have detectable levels of dioxin in his/her blood. While we know that chlorine is a substantial environmental problem caused by the paper industry, household bleach and cleaners containing chlorine also pose a serious health risk. For instance, in 1997, 217,989 calls to the Poison Control Center concerned household cleaners. Of those calls, 54,453 were about chlorine bleach and 7,570 were for chlorine disinfectants. So, that means that 28.4 percent of all calls were related to poisonings by chlorine products. What's even more important, most of those calls were about children under 6 years old.

Q: What can happen if these chemicals get into our bodies?
Our bodies are very good at metabolizing many things. Through special enzymes, our bodies are able to rid themselves of many environmental toxic substances that we come into contact with daily. However, dioxins (and other organochlorine compounds) aren't included. Even if we are exposed to very low levels, dioxins remain in the body and accumulate. The EPA is now saying that this is soon to become a major health risk problem. The cumulative effects of dioxin in humans have been linked to birth defects, cancer, reproductive disorders and immune system breakdown.

Q: Should chlorine be used in our public water supply?
The alternative question would be, should we drink contaminated water? The answer, of course, would be no. It's very important that our water is sanitized. Years ago, there were very few alternatives. However, today, while chlorine is a very effective (and cheap) sanitizer, many scientists are recognizing some serious side effects from chlorine. Today, our technology is getting to the point where, I hope, we will look into a better means of sanitizing our drinking water. This will not be easy because one of the biggest advantages (and ultimately the biggest disadvantage) of using chlorine is the fact that chlorine doesn't break down. Water can be treated with chlorine at the filtration plant and 10 miles away the chlorine is persistent enough to remain in the water and pipes when it reaches the home. There exist many other ingredients that are good sanitizers, but they break down quickly, and the water would become contaminated by the time it reaches someone's home. We may have a problem if we need to sanitize via a chemical additive. It becomes a sort of oxymoron: chemicals that are persistent also tend to be toxic. The ultimate solution may be to have home-based water filtration/sanitizing systems. This would eliminate the problem of trying to prevent hundreds of miles of pipes, installed a hundred years ago, from contaminating the water.

Q: Are there safe, effective alternatives to chlorine as a bleaching agent and disinfectant?
Absolutely! Primarily, hydrogen peroxide is available to the paper industry and to the soap industry as a bleaching agent. Another new technology uses ozone. Other non-chlorinated household cleaning products, readily available to the consumer, achieve the same bleaching and disinfecting results as chlorine but are nontoxic. I don't understand why anyone would want to use chlorine products anyway. Chlorine is a respiratory irritant and when mixed with other common household products, it gives off a toxic gas.

Q: What can we do to make a difference?
We could request and purchase processed chlorine-free paper, not just in writing paper but in paper towels, napkins, tissues, and toilet paper. It's a vote for our environment and our health. It may seem to be a small thing, but collectively it really can make a substantial difference. We need to realize that the technology in the chemical industry has changed as dramatically as in the computer industry. We no longer need to use harmful substances simply because they worked for our grandparents. The technology in the chemical industry is allowing us to replace many of these toxic ingredients with others that are not only nontoxic but have renewable resources and many environmental benefits.
It's a major educational process for consumers to understand that they, through their buying choices, can make a difference. Did you know that only about 20 percent of shoppers buy their household products in natural food stores? What that says to me is that while consumers recognize the importance of buying supplements and organic foods, they don't recognize the same environmental and health benefits associated with buying chlorine-free paper and other non-toxic cleaners.

Chlorine Facts
Dioxin, a chemical byproduct of the manufacturing of chlorine bleached paper, is believed to be the single most carcinogenic chemical known to science.
When you open the door of your dishwasher after washing, toxic volatized chlorine from dish detergent and tap water is released into the air. Thanks to chlorine pollution, Americans ingest a daily amount of dioxin that is already 300 to 600 times greater than the EPA's so-called "safe" dose.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has found dioxin to be 300,000 times more potent as a carcinogen than DDT.Dioxin has been linked to endometriosis, immune system impairment, diabetes, neurotoxicity, birth defects, decreased fertility, and reproductive dysfunction in both women and men.Studies show that 40-70 percent of the dioxin in bleached coffee filters can leach into your coffee; dioxin found in paper milk cartons also leaches into the milk you drink. Cancer-causing chemicals like chlorine found in many household products such as coffee filters, disposable diapers, paper towels, and bathroom tissue are readily absorbed through the skin.

Moms Wanted

Good Morning Ladies I am looking for some awesome moms who would like to work from home just like me... If you aren't interested please don't read this. Here is some information about what I do, please contact me for an interview...

Hi, my name is Brandy! I'm a full-time wife and mommy to 5 beautiful Children ages 12,9,7,5 and 1 years old. From the day my 1st son( that was 12 years ago) was born I knew I wanted to be home to take care of my family. I hoped for my husband to get a raise or a better job. I didn’t know how to take control and make it happen for my family. I needed a way to earn from home. I wasn’t able to find that until right before my Daughter was born that is my three year old. I was particular and wasn’t looking for anything that required people to spend money on stuff they didn’t need. With the economy right now most people are having a hard time just making it; they can’t afford nonessential items. I also knew up front I didn’t want to work with a MLM company or do parties. I knew in order to be successful I would need to find a company that was risk free, reputable & one that has been around for quite some time. I didn’t want any hidden fees, selling or any inventory. I wanted something anyone could do and something that didn’t have a huge investment involved! My last requirement was No Telemarketing. After a lot of searching I finally found a company that met all my criteria and more. Finding a company that has never been affected by a recession and actually grows during that time was a major bonus!

These are the things that I do right from my home: set appointments; market my free website (training provided); dial people into overview calls; set up online accounts; help others do what I do & earn residual income that grows every single month!!
I started working this part time Three Years ago because I was working full time; so I had to fit it in where I could. I am now home full time! I’ve actually received Last year Over 45,000 , that was more then I was making in the corp. world. How you work this depends on your income goals, everything is month to month, no contracts or quotas and no monthly fees. I call the shots and still spend quality time with my family. If my daughter has a dance recital I don’t have to ask permission to leave work or take the day off. I can work completely around my family. When I started I was nine months pregnant, so I know anyone can do this. This is not a “get rich quick scheme”’ it definitely requires hard work and determination, but it is so worth it. It was scary looking for a legitimate company, but I found one that is making my family’s dreams come true. If you are in the same situation as I was and you'd like more information go to my website at: http://www.workathomeunited.com/brandy
You can view the link that says view more and then if you would like me to contact you, please click the link that says Get More Info. Now! and give some basic information and I get back to you! It only takes 25 minutes to get you all the details on the company so you can decide if we are a good fit for you. We may or may not be what you are looking for, but at least you’ll know.

Hugs,
Brandy
